The LKY-STEP Award was established from donations received from Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew through the sale proceeds of autographed editions of Volume 2 of his Memoirs. The objective of the award is to encourage lifelong learning. A maximum of five awards will be offered each year to outstanding polytechnic graduates pursuing full-time undergraduate degree programmes at NTU, NUS, SMU or the Polytechnic-Foreign Specialised Institution collaboration framework (Poly-FSI).

Who is eligible? |
The award is open to citizens or Permanent Residents of Singapore who are Polytechnic Diploma holders and students under the Poly-FSI, who will be matriculated into full-time undergraduate degree programmes in NTU, NUS, SMU or Poly-FSI.

- Outstanding Polytechnic Diploma results preferably Diploma with Merit
- Excellent Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) records
- Strong leadership qualities

Coverage |
The award consists of a one-off cash award of S$3,500 that is revised annually.

Application procedure |
Singapore Management University (SMU) is the secretariat for LKY-STEP Award in AY2009/2010.
- Download the application form here.
- Print and submit the completed application form, together with the required supporting documents as indicated in the application form to SMU.
- Selection interviews will be held in mid-July 2009. Candidates who are shortlisted for the interviews will be informed in early July 2009.

Other notes |
- Applicants must commence his/her study in any full-time undergraduate programme at NTU, NUS, SMU or Poly-FSI in Academic Year 2009-/2010.
- Holders of the award are allowed to hold concurrent scholarships offered by NTU, NUS, SMU or Poly-FSI (such as the University Engineering Scholarships) or other organisations.
- LKY-STEP AWARD holders who are unsuccessful in securing a concurrent scholarship will have their tuition fees waived by the universities. There will be no bond attached to the award.
